Road Win Lifts New Orleans to 1-0 Lead in DS
|
The New Orleans Brass started the Division Series in style today, winning on the road against the Portland Stag at Tuttle Fields by a score of 7-1 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Brass shortstop Manuel Lee was named player of the game after he was 3-5 with 2 doubles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3.
With one out in the top of the fifth, Marvin Benard had a game-changing hit. The Brass right fielder slammed a run-scoring single off Brian Givens, making the score 3-0, New Orleans.
"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Benard said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."
Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow at Tuttle Fields in Portland. Slated to start are Brian Barnes for New Orleans and Scott Karl for Portland.
