Extra-Inning Win by Knights over Royals
|
The Kansas City Royals got a superb performance from left fielder Ray Lankford. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Charlotte. The Knights won the game, 5-3. In spite of the loss, Lankford was named the player of the game. He was 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Matt Mantei, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1 innings. The win pushes Charlotte to a record of 12-17.
Charlotte center fielder Carl Everett had a key at-bat for the Knights in the bottom of the tenth inning. Facing Kansas City pitcher Armando Benitez, Everett hit a walk-off 2-run home run to make the score 5-3, Charlotte. For the day, he went 1 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Knights manager Tyler Vuxta. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
