Benefiting from an exceptional performance from Scott Rolen, the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Orlando Devil Rays, 6-5. Rolen was 2-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Reds. Mike Mussina went 6 innings for Cincinnati to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 4 earned runs. He scattered 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 5. His record improves to 14-6. Cincinnati goes to 85-57. The win puts them 2 games up in their division.
Rolen came through with some timely hitting for Cincinnati. With the score 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth and one down, Rolen hit a 1-2 cutter for a 3-run home run. His 30th home run of the season made it 6-4, Cincinnati.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Rolen told the Cincinnati News. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
