Marlins Get Road Win, 7-4
|
Florida Marlins starter Pete Schourek was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Montreal Expos, 7-4. The winning pitcher was Schourek, now 15-6. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 7. Carlos C. Maldonado, credited with the save, is now 6 for 13 in save opportunities.
One important at-bat came with a runner on 1st in the top of the sixth inning. Facing Montreal hurler Jon Lieber, Cal Ripken Jr., who finished 3rd in the UL in home runs with 32 in 1983, hit a single. The Marlins went on to win.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Ripken Jr.. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
The Marlins, now 74-86, have won 4 in a row.
