Ramirez Slugs Padres to 7-5 Win
|
The San Diego Padres defeated the Seattle Pilots, 7-5, at Kingdome today. Leading the charge for San Diego was designated hitter Manny Ramirez. He was 3-3 with 2 home runs, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 4 times and driving in 3. Ismael Valdez earned the win to go to 11-14. He allowed 4 earned runs on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Rob Murphy got the save, his 28th in 40 chances.
San Diego took a 4-1 lead on Ramirez's 51st home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which he hit off Alan Embree in the top of the sixth, propelled San Diego to the win.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Ramirez.
San Diego's record now stands at 61-101, placing them last in the United League West Division.
