Mattingly Collects Hit Number 2500
Don Mattingly was bubbling over with joy, celebrating his 2500th hit in the New York 8-4 victory over the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

"I learned what hard work, focus, dedication, and opportunity can do. This is how it pays off."

The 34-year-old first baseman achieved that milestone with 3 hits in 4 at-bats to join the exclusive 2500-hit club.

His manager said, "Don plays the same every day and every inning -- with all his heart. That's why he's such a special player."

During his career Mattingly has hit for a .304 average and totaled 2502 hits, 362 home runs and 1309 RBIs.
