Twins Lose to Cubs, 5-2
|
Chicago and Minnesota duked it out at Metrodome and the Cubs came out victorious.
Minnesota first baseman Frank Thomas was sensational. He went 4 for 4 with a home run and 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Chicago beat the Twins, 5-2. Thomas was named the player of the game despite the loss. Tim Burke finished the game for Chicago and earned his 2nd save.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Cubs had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the fifth, when center fielder Bob Brower hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Darryl Kile and made the score 3-2, Cubs. Brower went 2 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"It feels good to get this one," Brower told the Chicago Citizen.
The Cubs bumped their record to 20-17 with this latest triumph.
