Red Sox Top Cardinals, 4-3
Boston and St. Louis duked it out and the Red Sox came out victorious.

Boston picked up a win at Fenway Park, bumping off the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-3. Pitcher Tom Gordon was a major reason the Red Sox emerged victorious. Gordon got the win, improving to 2-5. He gave up 4 hits and walked 1 over 7.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs.

Floyd Rayford dealt the Cardinals a blow in the bottom of the sixth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Boston leading 2-0, Rayford, who finished 5th in the UL in home runs with 41 in 1986, hit a first pitch fastball for a 2-run single.

"I always try to stay as positive and as mentally strong as possible because I know how crazy this game can be," said Rayford.

The win boosts the Red Sox to 19-34. The loss puts the Cardinals at 33-21.
