Orioles Need Extra Frames to Get Past Athletics
|
The Oakland Athletics got a superb performance from pitcher Todd Stottlemyre, but the Baltimore Orioles still won the game, 5-4. Stottlemyre was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 7 innings of 1-hit ball. Baltimore reliever Roger McDowell picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Don August was saddled with the loss. The Orioles keep rolling, raising their record to 4-1.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Baltimore center fielder Kenny Lofton, facing Don August, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Orioles the 5-4 win.
"I like our moxie," said Orioles manager Daniel Ward.
