The Cardinals had to overcome a good performance from Orlando pitcher Hipolito Pichardo to claim a 3-2 win at Busch Stadium. Pichardo went 8.1 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. St. Louis is now 41-23, Orlando 24-38.

Also pitching in was St. Louis shortstop John Valentin, who hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the 11th. For the game, Valentin was 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
