Padres Stymie Baltimore, Take 4-1 Win
|
The Padres had to overcome a good performance from Baltimore pitcher Jose DeLeon to claim a 4-1 win at Memorial Stadium. DeLeon went 7 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. Sean Bergman went 5.1 innings for San Diego to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 1 earned run. He scattered 4 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 2. His record improves to 3-5. Robb Nen notched his 12th save in 13 chances.
San Diego used the timely hitting of Geronimo Berroa to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Padres on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll savor this win," Berroa told the San Diego Today, "then get ready for the next game."
The Padres saw their record improve to 27-38.
