Orioles Prove Rude Guests, Win 6-4 at New York
|
The Baltimore Orioles beat the New York Mets, 6-4, at Shea Stadium. Baltimore designated hitter Ed Sprague Jr. earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. Jose DeLeon picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 4 earned runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 7. On the season, he is now 2-8. Roger McDowell was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 9 of 13 save opportunities.
Baltimore used the timely hitting of Kenny Lofton to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Orioles on top, 6-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Sprague Jr..
The Orioles' win now puts them at 32-38.
