|
The Minnesota Twins got a sterling performance from pitcher Hideo Nomo, but the Devil Rays still prevailed, 2-1. Nomo was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 8 innings of 3-hit ball. Orlando, at 41-35, occupies third place in the Federal League East Division.
With two out in the bottom of the 11th, Jose Valentin hit a go-ahead run-scoring single. It was his 58th hit of the season and with it the Devil Rays took a 2-1 lead.
"Winning is contagious," said Valentin. "We're looking forward to the next game."
