Reds Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Cincinnati Reds faced a tough opponent in St. Louis pitcher Scott Erickson, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Busch Stadium by a final score of 3-2. Erickson went 9 innings and allowed 3 earned runs. The winner was Cincinnati reliever Arthur Rhodes, now 6-3. The loser was Scott Erickson. Todd Worrell, credited with the save, is now 21 for 23 in save opportunities.
It could have been a different outcome for Cincinnati, had it not been for Fernando Vina, the top prospect . Vina contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth inning to put Cincinnati up, 3-2.
Afterward, Reds manager Eric Deutsch was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
Cincinnati has now reeled off 7 straight wins.
