Cardinals Turn Back Orlando, 4-2
|
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Orlando Devil Rays, 4-2, in Federal League action at Busch Stadium, with St. Louis pitcher Scott Erickson named player of the game. Erickson, the winner, moves to 1-1. He threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 3 walks. The loss drops Orlando to 5-4.
Ivan Calderon put St. Louis in front, 3-1, when he took Jimmy Key downtown. His solo home run came with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. It was his 2nd home run of the season.
Orlando manager Ben Tennyson said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
