Cincinnati Blanked by Imanaka
Sunday, May 11th, 1997
Shinji Imanaka of the Boston Red Sox spun his magic on the Cincinnati Reds today. He blanked them 6-0 on 4 hits, registering 10 strikeouts and 2 walks.
"The bottom line was I just kept the ball down," Imanaka said. "My breaking stuff was down. Everything was down."
Talking to reporters in the postgame interview, Boston skipper Brett Williams said the team "got solid pitching, good defense and took great team at-bats in a lot of different situations."
"Shinji pitched really well but this was a solid performance by everyone," he said.
To date this season Imanaka sports a 4-3 mark with a 4.39 ERA in 8 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .227 batting average and has 46 strikeouts in 55.1 innings.
