300 Homers for Van Slyke

Swinging his way into the record books, Andy Van Slyke reached the 300 homer mark today at RFK Stadium against the Washington Senators. He went 2-for-3 with 2 runs batted in and 3 runs on the day, although San Diego would go down to defeat 10-5.
"It was a distraction," Van Slyke said of his 300th home run. "I'm happy it's over. I just wish I'd been able to make a difference in the outcome today."
In his 1696-game career Van Slyke is batting .283 with 403 doubles, 61 triples, 301 home runs and 1095 RBIs. He has stolen 310 bases and scored 1121 times.
