Ishii Holds Tigers Scoreless
Wednesday, September 24th, 1997
In a remarkable performance, New York Mets starter Takehiro Ishii beat the Detroit Tigers 2-0 in an impressive 3-hit shutout.
"My arm felt good, mechanics were good and my stuff was working," he said later. "It doesn't get any better than this."
The Mets hurler finished with 3 strikeouts and 1 walk. He showed pinpoint control and a sharp fastball.
"It was a rough one for my guys," Detroit manager Julio Izquierdo said following the game. "We weren't at our best and their guy was."
This season Ishii has compiled a 13-6 mark with a 2.96 ERA in 17 starts.
