Pittsburgh-Cincinnati Trade: Petkovsek for Karkovice

It took some time to iron out the details, but the Pirates and Reds have agreed to a swap. Cincinnati will get 29-year-old minor league RHP Mark Petkovsek with Pittsburgh receiving 31-year-old minor league C Ron Karkovice in return. A source close to the trade talks said the two clubs were initially looking to make a bigger deal, but discussions broke off late last night. The two sides reconvened early today and eventually settled on this deal.
For his career Karkovice has hit at a .167 clip. Among his lifetime numbers are 184 hits, 32 doubles, no triples, 35 home runs and 103 RBIs.
