Appier Puts Spell on New York
Tuesday, August 1st, 1995
Kevin Appier of the Pittsburgh Pirates humiliated the New York Yankees at Three Rivers Stadium today, spinning a complete game shutout and holding the visitors to 5 hits.
"He stayed aggressive and his ball was really moving," said New York manager Patrick McQuail, after the game.
Appier whiffed 8 and walked 2 in the 6-0 win.
"If I make good pitches, I'm going to get some outs," Appier said. "I was making good pitches the entire game."
This year Appier has compiled a 15-5 mark with a 3.59 ERA in 23 starts.
