St. Louis Takes Division Series in Deciding Game
Wednesday, October 5th, 1994
Doubleday Baseball League pundits who figured the Division Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals would go the distance were right on the mark.
The two teams battled back and forth in a spirited series, with St. Louis coming out on top thanks to a 3-1 win in the deciding game at Royals Stadium, to wrap things up 4-3.
"You get to the last game and anything can happen, so we're overjoyed to come out on top," said Cardinals first baseman Ivan Calderon, who was named series MVP.
For the series, Calderon had 12 hits for a .444 average. He had 3 home runs, 6 RBI and scored 4 runs.
The St. Louis Cardinals don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Chicago Cubs - Orlando Sun Rays series. That series is tied at 3 games apiece. The League Championship schedule will be announced after the Division Series finishes.
