Rodriguez Torches Rainiers for 5 Hits
Friday, April 4th, 1997
It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Tony Rodriguez today -- a 5-hit effort. He went on a rampage at Premont Grounds and paced the River Rats to a 8-7 win over the Tacoma Rainiers.
After his dynamite batting performance, the Spokane shortstop told reporters that he "just tried to get in a good count and have a good at-bat. That's all I can control."
His philosophy paid dividends today. He slammed 5 hits in 5 tries and put his name in the record book. Tony Rodriguez singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Brad Rigby in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Carlos Reyes in the 8th.
Looking at his season stats, Rodriguez has compiled a .381 batting average and a .409 on-base percentage, while hitting 2 home runs and driving in 3 runs.
