Whalers Walk Off with 4-3 Win
|
The Hartford Whalers picked up a win at Wolves Ballpark, knocking off the Buffalo Bisons, 4-3. Starting pitcher Jimmy Haynes, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Hartford is now riding a 3-game win streak.
The Whalers got a big at-bat from pinch hitter Kurt Abbott. For the game, Abbott was 1-1 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the ninth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 20th home run of the season gave Hartford a 4-3 lead.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Haynes. "Successful pitchers do it."
