Stag Fall Short at Tacoma
|
The Tacoma Rainiers started the 1995 season win an impressive 3-2 win against the Portland Stag at Premont Grounds. Cliff Brantley was named player of the game. Tacoma reliever Bill Sampen was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Scott Karl took the loss for Portland.
Had Aaron Ledesma not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Ledesma hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Rainiers.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Brantley said.
