Mordecai Helps Stag Run Win Streak to 3
|
In a tight contest at Tuttle Fields, the Portland Stag edged the Tacoma Rainiers by the score of 7-6. Portland shortstop Mike Mordecai, who blasted 1 home run, was named the player of the game. The win was credited to Scott Watkins in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Ed Pierce took the loss. Chuck Ricci was credited with the save for Portland, his 7th of the season.
Wes Chamberlain helped the Portland cause with one out in the bottom of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and Portland leading 6-5, he hit a sacrifice fly.
"If it's down the middle," said Mordecai, "you might as well hit it."
The first-place Stag have a one-game lead in their division.
