Pivotal Game 5 Goes to Host Bisons, 5-4
|
Buffalo right fielder Eddie Zambrano was the key at Aspinwall Grounds today, being named player of the game as he powered the Bisons to victory in a critical Game 5 of the League Championship Series. The Bisons took the 5-4 win over the Hartford Whalers to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman David Howard came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Hartford pitcher Mark Petkovsek, he hit a 1-1 sinker for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Buffalo on top, 5-3.
Zambrano said afterward that the win gets the team one step closer to its goal.
The next game is set to be played Thursday. Slated to start are Danny Jackson for Buffalo and Jimmy Haynes for Hartford.
